Give Codpiece a Chance

Codforsaken: 16th-century variation on the codpiece.
Women's breasts have been "manipulated, pushed, prodded, corseted, crinolined--you name it, the whole thing," says Jennifer Strait, Washington State University apparel, merchandising and textiles professor.

Meanwhile, men's clothing continues to reflect absolute sexlessness. Her suggestion for evening the score? "It's time to bring back the codpiece!" From her World-Wide Web home page (http://www.teleport.com/~codpiece), Strait has been leading a one-woman campaign to resurrect the codpiece--a padded clothing accessory, intended to place emphasis on the penis, once worn by men over the genital area.

Strait even has formed a company, Pegasus Enterprises(*), to market T-shirts, but offers no actual codpieces yet--she's having trouble finding a company that can mass-produce them. When questioned, a GQ editor refused to say whether the magazine would support the codpiece movement.
